Harvest Ridge Elementary started off the 2016-17 school year with a big celebration when students, families and staff came together for the school’s very first Back to School Bash on Wednesday, July 27.
More than 200 family and friends attended the bash and enjoyed free goodies such as books, pencils and magnets, a raffle for play equipment sponsored by Wal-Mart, face-painting, hat-making, and popsicles which were provided by the Harvest Ridge PTO.
Food trucks, a photo booth, free haircuts and coupons given out by the Salon Professional Academy, balloon animals provided by Way Cool Balloons, free fruit and water sponsored by Fresh Thyme Market, as well as a special performance by the Missouri River Cloggers were additional highlights of the bash.
Principal Natalie DeWeese collaborated with Educational Support Counselors Linda Murphy and Greg Vest to organize the event. The goal was to welcome families with an opportunity to come together and get ready for the new school year.
DeWeese said the school is working hard on strengthening relationships with community and Harvest Ridge family members.
“It filled me with joy to see our families coming together with support from our local organizations,” DeWeese said. “The building was overflowing with excitement and energy from students, families, and staff.”
Many donated necessary items such as shoes and underwear for the school nurse to use during the school year. Families also had the chance to purchase Harvest Ridge’s car stickers.
DeWeese said the event was a great success and everyone at Harvest Ridge is excited for students to return to school Aug. 9.
“We are looking forward to having our students back in the building for what is sure to be another successful school year,” DeWeese said.
